RE: The soon to be arrived at Dark Ages as dictated by the Republican legislature and documented by you in today’s column in the Sun-Sentinel. “Slouching towards Bethlehem”, no?

Mr. Mayo,

Only someone who is a perfect clone cut from the edges of the template of modern American Liberalism, someone who believes that help is on the way when someone else says “I’m from the government and I ‘m here to help”, would say without a hint of nuance that the 1929 Florida legislature censured First Lady Lou Henry Hoover for inviting the black wife of a Congressman to the White House for something other than a music lesson.

It should have read the Democratic Florida legislature censured Republican Mrs. Herbert Hoover for having a Negro in for tea. [In 1929 there were no African-Americans]

That would have given a counterbalancing tint to the list of the many lashes on the backs of Florida’s undeserving poor, middle class, seniors, juniors, wise fools, single moms who are women of color, undocumented aliens from earth and elsewhere, people who try to fill inside straights, and any and all other exploited groups I may have missed.

It seems that there has been a collective loss of memory.

There was an election last year.

The candidates presented themselves to the electorate.

The people, God damn them, voted.

In the sense that even a blind pig can find a truffle, I am reminded that in February, 2009 President Obama lectured a Republican Congressman thus: “There was an election. I won.”

Some good has been gleaned from the Obama legislative process.

You say,

“This year, so many things got tucked into last-minute
“conforming bills” and “committee reports”, you never
know what might pop up when somebody
actually reads all of them.”

It sounds like somebody read the ObamaCare bill, not to understand the law – reading James Joyce in Gangsta rap with Linear B footnotes would be easier – but how to stuff 4 pounds of blivit into a 2 pound bag.

I am told that there is a provision in ObamaCare that pays a bounty for 4th trimester abortions. That way it cuts down on the dreaded Death Panels.

Laws and sausages. It’s tough to watch either being made. It’s brutal to watch both being made.

Here’s a plan.

If you don’t like the way things are going in Tallahassee change it.

We have a tried and true method for that.

Elections.

If you win them you get to lead the band.

PS – I guess manatee suffrage, an idea whose time has not yet come, is not going to happen soon. Too bad.
